Acupuncture

acupunctureWHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is a system of healing practiced in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years; often thought of as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat a wide range of illnesses.

Whilst focussing on any specific symptoms Acupuncture treatments are also beneficial to the overall well-being of the patient.

Traditional Chinese medicine's basic approach to good health is based on the body's motivating energy – known as Qi – moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of meridians (channels) beneath the skin. Acupuncture seeks to restore and enhance the equilibrium of this energy. (This may sound rather vague to the western mind but in China it has been used as anaesthetic during open heart surgery!)

WHAT DOES ACUPUNCTURE TREAT?

The World Health Organisation has recognised that Acupuncture can help treat and prevent a range of different ailments such as…

  • Back and neck pain, sciatica
  • Injuries, painful or aching muscles and joints
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Stress
  • Endometriosis
  • Menstrual problems
  • Menopausal symptoms
  • Arthritis
  • Indigestion, bloating and cramping after eating, constipation and diarrhoea, IBS
  • Low energy levels, fatigue
  • Sinusitis/rhinitis
  • Asthma
  • Skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis
  • Muscular tremors
  • Dizziness and vertigo
  • Palpitations
  • Sleeping problems, insomnia
  • People often speak of feeling calmer and more ‘together' following treatments.

Some patients like to combine Acupuncture with Reiki during their treatment, especially if they have difficulty relaxing. (Separate Reiki treatments can be arranged.)

WHAT HAPPENS AT AN ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT?

At an initial consultation, your health situation and associated concerns are discussed, related questions are asked to gain an overall view of your health. A TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) diagnosis is made and a treatment plan formulated.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?

This will vary depending on the nature of your complaint, its duration and your constitution. Many patients experience improvement after their initial treatment, others notice a difference after two or three sessions. The effects are often accumulative and some people find a course of treatments beneficial.

TREATMENT STRUCTURE & PRICES

The initial consultation for new patients (including treatment) takes approximately 1 hour and costs £40
Acupuncture treatments for existing patients costs £35
5 treatments can be purchased for £150 (payable in advance, non-refundable)
