Osteopathy
Osteopathy involves the careful and specific application of a highly developed sense of touch in both diagnosis and treatment of mechanical problems affecting any part of the body. We treat back pain, migraines, headaches rheumatism and arthritis; repetitive strain injury and joint injuries e.g. tennis elbow; accident trauma e.g. whiplash; and even mild depression and anxiety. Conditions associated with pregnancy and childbirth are also often suitable for osteopathy treatment. All the Osteopaths at the Clinic treat children of all ages.
WHAT IS CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY?
It is a system of manual medicine devised by William Garner Sutherland in America earlier last century. As an Osteopath he discovered that the 26 bones making up the skull were intricately jointed in such a way as to permit slight yielding motion.
He understood that this was in order to allow a slight rhythmical expansion and contraction of the brain inside which is quite independent of the movements of the breathing and heart beat.
He further discovered that this motion is not confined to the head but is present, and can be felt, throughout the body. The motion seems essential for maintenance of health.
When the body is subjected to trauma such as birth or other injury this slight motion can become disrupted and the health of the body may be disturbed or compromised.
